Mintex Hit the Brakes on RAF Motor Racing Team Race of Remembrance Effort

In fact, quite the opposite as fully British based Mintex bring their over 100 years experience developing quality, high performance brake products to further the external support to the RAF Motor Racing Team’s Race of Remembrance effort next month at Anglesey, providing the RAF team with a customised product combination specifically to suit the 12Hr endurance race format for optimal performance and reliability.

As mentioned in previous updates, external support underpins the success of the RAF Motor Racing Team’s efforts to bring accessible, affordable racing and personal development to serving personnel of all ranks.

With Mintex parent company, TMD Friction UK Ltd not only manufacturing high performance products for racing and road but also recently manufactured for the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Avro Lancaster their support highlights the crossover between aerospace and motorsport engineering.

Lawrence Beasdale, Strategic Sales Director TMD Friction (parent company to Mintex) said “we were delighted to make sure that BBMF’s Lancaster continues to fly, it is the only one of two still flying in the world the other is based in Canada she is a key part of British heritage, by making the brake shoes for her out of modern materials, this “labour of love” venture has now extended to making the 12” Spitfire shoes with the 10 1/4” also now  in development, all done with the same skill and precision we put into modern race and road car materials, as well as those needed for historic race and road vehicles”

The RAF Motor Racing Competition Secretary Chris Slator notes the value of crossover engineering to team competitors and support crew, “it’s essential to our success to be able to bring on board partners in the form of practical equipment and consumables from renowned manufacturers and with a history parallel to RAF aerospace engineering itself, Mintex help highlight how we can commit transferrable skills into race prep”.

These transferrable skill set comparisons and professional partnerships also help highlight opportunities for anyone already serving wishing to get involved in RAF Motorsport and also provides attractive opportunities for recruitment events, offering ‘real world’ insight into RAF Engineering careers.
