RAF EMOTORSPORTS

RAF eMotorsports – Delivering motorsports, from the synthetics environment to live on the track.

In the recent past, we’ve seen a wide range of sporting events turn to the simulation environment. Prior to COVID-19 restrictions, RAF Motorsports were exploring the potential benefits of using Esports as a synthetic alternative to the physical sport.  Due to cancellations of the 2020 race season for all our disciplines, our teams are in the process of finding ways to adapt to their new circumstances and fill the unforeseen competitive gap. There now exists an opportunity for the RAF Motor Sports Association (RAFMSA) to embrace Video Gaming and Esports and develop a strategy for including Esports within the remit of RAF Motorsports activity.

External examples of this include Motorsport UK’s #StayOnTrackChallenge, which aims to encourage racing drivers to keep in touch via various social media platforms and show people what they are doing to pass the time practically and keep up with their training and virtual racing has had an amazing role in keeping motorsport fans and drivers connected.

In response to this, the RAF Motor Sports Association (RAFMSA) launched a new focus team called RAF eMotorsports to explore the max potential Esports has for its members and its sporting output.

This has rapidly grown into one of the largest disciplines within the RAFMSA with only Karting containing a greater membership total, and there is significant crossover with many of the other disciplines as circuit racing and rallying are large parts of the simulated world. Additionally the interaction with RAF Esports shows another overlap between communities, expanding both Associations to personnel who may not ordinarily consider the one they are not a part of.

Supporting individuals regardless of their chosen platform (PC/Consoles) RAF eMotorsports primarily operate around the iRacing.com platform on PC however competitors in Raceroom Racing Experience, Assetto Corsa, rFactor 2, Gran Turismo and Forza do also represent the association at various levels.

We have recently been listed as a recommended communities by Motorsport UK on their eMotorsports pages.
