Motor Racers to return to Anglesey for Race of Remembrance

Having competed in the inaugural Race Of Remembrance in 2014 and 2019 events in the ‘Heroes trophy’ and 2016 in a relay format, today (4th October) the team can confirm that 2x entries have been submitted.

The team will field a pair of BMW 116i E87 cars not only against each other, but also against similar specification cars from Royal Navy Royal Marines Car Racing Team and also Royal Engineers Motorsport in their first showing at RoR.

Comp Sec for Motor Racing, Chris Slator said “We’re delighted to be in a position to enter these cars in this event. It is very much a race meeting wrapped around a Remembrance Service which in previous years has been the highlight for the team members. We have a mixture of experience driving and supporting the cars with RAF personnel from a variety of backgrounds (both in racing and employment).”

With a busy schedule ahead the team have their work cut out. The final round of the Armed Forces Race Challenge is this weekend at Mallory Park, Leicestershire, followed by an open day to promote their discipline to potential new members and the Inter-Services at the 750 Motor Club Holly Birkett 6Hr Race at Silverstone.

Chris continued “The preparation of these cars; deployment, operation and recovery is the same process as deploying military aviation effect. We have engineers who will be setting up the cars and maintaining them throughout, a communications specialist to enable connectivity for media and data sharing, a data analyst who will be working remotely to help extract the best performance from the drivers, operations staff on car-to-pit radios, tacticians will be monitoring the conditions and planning the refuels whilst our team catering staff are making sure everyone is kept fed and watered”.

Participation in these events isn’t possible without the aid received by supporters. In particular the RAF Central Fund, a charity who work to safeguard the health and wellbeing of serving personnel through grant funding for sport and physical activities. The principle fundraising tool for RAF Central Fund is the RAF Sports Lottery, open to all serving and former RAF personnel. Players are in with a chance of winning the £10,000 top prize each week whilst supporting The Fund. For anyone wishing to enter, the lottery rules can be found on the RAF Sports Lottery website along with the online entry form.
